National Landmarks (Canada) : ウィキペディア英語版 | National Landmarks (Canada) A National Landmark is a type of protected area in Canada. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Government of Canada envisioned establishing a system of National Landmarks in order to protect natural features considered to be "outstanding, exceptional, unique, or rare" in Canada. Such features would typically be isolated entities of scientific interest.〔(Pingo National Landmark management—Parks Canada )〕 To date, only one National Landmark has been established: the Pingo National Landmark in the Northwest Territories. In 1984, the ''Nelson Head National Landmark'' was proposed to protect the Nelson Head cape on the southern tip of Banks Island, also in the Northwest Territories. It was to include some of land, including of coastline and the sea cliffs at Nelson Head and Cape Lambton. Durham Heights, which reach an elevation of , were also to be included. The legislation providing for the Landmark required a formal request from the Minister of the Environment within 10 years,〔(The Inuvialuit Final Agreement ) (Sec. 7 (77-81))〕 and no such request was made by the 1994 expiry date. ==See also==
